22DIGIT035 – Ludowick – The Groove Stalker Remixed

Ludowick’s ‘Groove Stalker EP’ hit the shelves back in March with support from Stacey Pullen, X-Press 2, Slam, Abyss and Pole Folder amongst several other esteemed DJs, while 5 Magazine rated it 9.5/10 commenting that it showcased, “what a great, well-rounded producer Ludowick is.” Six months later, and Newcastle’s 22 Digit Records now unveil a knock-out remix package which sees the tracks get deep and tech house remakes from label newcomers Sensoreal and Plastiksound, alongside returning favourites Alan Svartr, Kai Limberger, Midicult and Pete Weasel.

Ludowick – from Barcelona, influenced by draws Richie Hawtin, Kevin Yost and Isolee, heavily involved in Barcelona Records, releases on Filthy Groovin Records, Chibar, D-Lab and Mind Code Records.

Sensoreal – three DJs/producers from Bratislava, Slovakia – Chris, Kece and Martin Greenland. Responsible for Seta Label and releases on Soma, Shufflemood, Open Bar and Triebstroff.

Plastiksound – young Italian duo who have been producing music since 2009, are residents at Extra Extra in Padua and have released music on Dootrecords amongst others.

Alan Svartr – 22 Digit regular who has attracted support from Eric Prydz, Dasyn Masiello (SOS), Dave Seaman and Markus Schulz. His last outing for 22 Digit was the ‘Diamond Fluff EP’ in December.

Kai Limberger – founder of the Autark, Gymnastique and Avancee imprints in Germany. He has also released on Someone Else’s uber-cool Little Helpers label, holds down a residency at plus+ club in Heidelberg and works for scene magazine Subculture.

Midicult – the secretive alias for a well-known producer with a decade long career in house and techno his music who has been heavily supported by DJs including Nick Warren and Magda, and appeared on the Global Underground compilations.

Pete Weasel – one of the men behind 22 Digit Records along with William Reed. He is a resident VJ for the city’s long-standing club night Shindig and has previously remixed Michael McLardy, Melos + Kyber, Ludowick and Jerico for 22 Digit.

22DIGIT034 – 22 Digits 2012

22 Digit’s final release of 2012 shines a spotlight on four of their standout tracks and artists. This is the perfect chance to grab something you may have missed, or to refresh on a forgotten gem. The four tracks come from Melos & Kyber, Midicult, Ludowick and Ricardo Jefferson, all artists who will be familiar to those who have followed 22 Digit.

Versatile UK producers Melos & Kyber have previously produced solo tracks covering techno, drum and bass and atmospheric electronic music, but it’s on 22 Digit and their own Mora Music that they have made an impression crafting deep and tech house. Stroboscopic is taken from their second EP for 22 Digit, and is also available with remixes from Tom Ellis, Martijn and Paul Hardy & McKai.

Midicult is the secretive alias for a well-known producer who prefers to keep this latest project under the radar. With a decade long career in house and techno his music has been heavily supported by DJs including Nick Warren and Magda, he runs his own label and has released music through the Global Underground compilations, but that is all we are allowed to say! Bathtub Gin is taken from Midicult’s debut release on 22 Digit.

Ludowick (Luis A. Palomo) from Barcelona draws his influences from artists as diverse as Richie Hawtin, Kevin Yost and Isolee and has been heavily involved in Barcelona Records, with releases also appearing on Filthy Groovin Records, Chibar, D-Lab, Mind Code Records and of course his previous releases on 22 Digit. You’re Gonna was the lead track from his mammoth 7 track EP at the start of 2012.

Ricardo Jefferson has previously featured on London’s influential house and techno label Third Ear, has released original tracks and remixed Alan Svartr, YokoO and Very Jon for 22 Digit and appeared on labels including Big Mama, Manuscript and Nang. Jefferson is one of 22 Digit’s most prolific and loyal artists, working with the Newcastle label since early in 2009.

22DIGIT033 – Alan Svartr – Diamond Fluff EP

Alan Svartr maintains his crown as 22 Digit’s most prolific artist with his latest Low Rider EP. And it’s a long overdue return, with his previous release ‘How Wells Get Deep’ appearing back in December 2010. Svartr is to house music what Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes are to football – firmly aligning themselves with just one club (or in this case record label) for the duration of their career.

It’s a relationship that works well, with Svartr’s stripped back, moody and groovy take on deep and tech house perfectly reflecting the direction of 22 Digit. His two tracks here – Diamond Fluff and Low Rider – are remixed by Martijn and YokoO respectively, the pair no strangers to 22 Digit themselves.

Deep Edition Recordings’ boss Martijn previously graced 22 Digit with a remix of Melos + Kyber, but the relationship goes deep with both artist and label being based close together in the North East of England. Martijn’s career has skyrocketed in the past 18 months, becoming a firm favourite with Kruse & Nuernberg and their label Save Room, as well as gracing respected labels like i! Records, Neurotraxx, Baker Street and Savoir Faire.

YokoO moves things slightly further away form North East England. Originally from France, YokoO, real name Julien Beltzung, is now part of Sydney’s Reckless Republic and SPICE projects alongside Murat Kilic. His music has turned the heads of many a label boss from Kollektiv Turmstrasse, Shades of Gray and the Cosmic Cowboys. As well racking up plays from the likes of John Digweed, Anthony Pappa, Gorge and Brothers Vibe, Julien’s music has proven time and time again it can reach the record bags of the DJing elite in every continent.

22DIGIT032 – Midicult – Who Am I?

Newcastle-based producer Midicult returns for his second EP on 22 Digit Records, approximately 12 months after his debut ‘House Of Music EP’.

‘Who Am I?’ encapsulates Midicult’s low-slung, throbbing, bass-led approach – 10 minutes of hypnotic tech house with scattered percussion and intriguing stabs from the Andrew Weatherall school.

Three remixes begin with current hotly-tipped star Tom Ellis, whose recent remix for Classic Music has pushed him to the front of many respected record boxes (or their digital equivalents!). Ellis was infact first spotted by 22 Digit at the start of 2011 and has played a major part in shaping the label’s sound.

Jerico is another of 22 Digit’s most trusted producers, releasing a number of originals and remixes for the label in the past two years. The Irish producer has been steadily building an impressive name for himself with remixes and releases on labels such as Tall House Digital, Elite Records, Overdrive Musik and Autist Records. His powerful tech and progressive sounds have seen him remix for the likes of Alan Svartr, Shaun Warner, Dimi Kel and more.

Steve Legget, formerly known as Four Hands, is a new addition to the 22 Digit roster, bringing his gritty leftfield sound. He joins following releases for MDS Digital and Claremont 56.
